Reek Havoc Reports: Dog-friendly Door County 2019

Pixie took a break from reppin' Reek Havoc candles, and went on summer vacation to Door County with her family last week! So many businesses go out of their way to make pups feel welcome there, and for that we are sincerely appreciative. We're here to report on all the dog-friendly places Pixie experienced on her trip...

Captain Bailey's Dog Park: Nice little dog park in Baileys Harbor, fully fenced in. Separate areas for large and small dogs to enjoy. Open dawn til dusk daily. Get directions here.

Places to eat/drink with your canine companion.
Note: We explored "outdoor seating only" options.

BAILEYS HARBOR
  • Harbor Fish Market & Grille: As dog-friendly as they come! Delicious restaurant, great staff and service on Lake Michigan in Baileys Harbor. They even have a special "Doggy Menu" for our furry friends to order from! Pixie enjoyed the burger on her first visit, and the scrambled eggs with ham on her second. Her family enjoyed the lobster roll, eggs benedict, and cherry mimosas! Must be seated on the outdoor patio, so check the weather before you go.
  • Bearded Heart Coffee: Makes a damn fine Cortado with oat milk! Lots of outdoor tables in downtown Baileys Harbor.
Every pup gets a cone of custard at Not Licked Yet!

EGG HARBOR
  • Village Cafe: Didn't get a chance to dine here this trip, but have heard their patio is dog-friendly!

EPHRAIM
  • Trixie's: Adorable little place in the center of town, fantastic wine list. A Food & Wine magazine fave. (We recommend calling before you go to make sure a dog on the patio is okay - Pixie was asleep in her carrier next to us on our visit)

FISH CREEK
  • Not Licked Yet Frozen Custard: Even before taking our order, the counter staff offered Pixie her own little cone of custard -- free of charge! How sweet is that?! She absolutely loved it. Bonus: Located right along Fish Creek.
  • Barringers: Contemporary steak and seafood, delicious old-fashioneds.
  • The English Inn: Supper club with a very nice outdoor patio area -- and a moat! Superb Pink Squirrels.
Photo opps aplenty at the Door County Dog Store!

SHOPS

IMPORTANT, PLEASE NOTE: In our experience, most bars and restaurants with outdoor seating welcome dogs. However, it definitely varies from place to place. It's always a good idea to call ahead just to make sure. For example, pets are not allowed at Gordon Lodge, Maxwelton Braes/Thyme, and Fred and Fuzzy's Waterfront Bar & Grill.

Where to stay:
We usually stay at the Beachfront Inn when in town for the Door County Scottie Rally, held annually in May. It's right on Lake Michigan, and allows dogs on their private beach. This time we made reservations at The Ridges Inn & Suites. Both places are located in Baileys Harbor, and have designated dog-friendly rooms available for a nominal fee.
