Captain Bailey's Dog Park: Nice little dog park in Baileys Harbor, fully fenced in. Separate areas for large and small dogs to enjoy. Open dawn til dusk daily. Get directions here.
Doggy Menu at Harbor Fish Market & Grille |
Note: We explored "outdoor seating only" options.
BAILEYS HARBOR
- Harbor Fish Market & Grille: As dog-friendly as they come! Delicious restaurant, great staff and service on Lake Michigan in Baileys Harbor. They even have a special "Doggy Menu" for our furry friends to order from! Pixie enjoyed the burger on her first visit, and the scrambled eggs with ham on her second. Her family enjoyed the lobster roll, eggs benedict, and cherry mimosas! Must be seated on the outdoor patio, so check the weather before you go.
- Bearded Heart Coffee: Makes a damn fine Cortado with oat milk! Lots of outdoor tables in downtown Baileys Harbor.
- Door County Brewing Co: Furry friends allowed on the back patio for brews, and yummy food from Chives Food Truck.
EGG HARBOR
- Wild Tomato + One Barrel Brewing Company: Super dog-friendly patio party with slices of pizza and cold beer!
- Village Cafe: Didn't get a chance to dine here this trip, but have heard their patio is dog-friendly!
EPHRAIM
- Trixie's: Adorable little place in the center of town, fantastic wine list. A Food & Wine magazine fave. (We recommend calling before you go to make sure a dog on the patio is okay - Pixie was asleep in her carrier next to us on our visit)
- Ephraim Coffee Lab: Home-base of Isely Coffee, recently noted as best coffee on the peninsula by Food & Wine. It's all sooo good.
- Not Licked Yet Frozen Custard: Even before taking our order, the counter staff offered Pixie her own little cone of custard -- free of charge! How sweet is that?! She absolutely loved it. Bonus: Located right along Fish Creek.
- Barringers: Contemporary steak and seafood, delicious old-fashioneds.
- The English Inn: Supper club with a very nice outdoor patio area -- and a moat! Superb Pink Squirrels.
- Wild Tomato: Wood-fired pizza and cold beer.
SISTER BAY
- The KitschInn Juicery: Smoothies, Tapuat Kombucha on tap, vegan treats. Located in the old Patio Drive-In Motel.
- Stabbur Scandinavian Beer Garden: Outdoor beer drinking establishment (with snacks!) located to the right of Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant.
SHOPS
- Door County Dog Store, Sturgeon Bay: Run, don't walk here with your pup! They'll go crazy for the scent of treats made in-house by Stove Dog Bakery, and array of toys. Pixie picked up a souvenir t-shirt and new lifejacket! (We'll find out if they'll consider carrying Reek Havoc candles, too!)
- Patricia Shoppe, Egg Harbor
- Maxwell's House, Egg Harbor
- On Deck, Fish Creek & Sister Bay
- Charlie's Smokehouse, Gills Rock: Pixie recommends the smoked trout!
- Julie's Upscale Resale, Sister Bay
IMPORTANT, PLEASE NOTE: In our experience, most bars and restaurants with outdoor seating welcome dogs. However, it definitely varies from place to place. It's always a good idea to call ahead just to make sure. For example, pets are not allowed at Gordon Lodge, Maxwelton Braes/Thyme, and Fred and Fuzzy's Waterfront Bar & Grill.
Where to stay:
We usually stay at the Beachfront Inn when in town for the Door County Scottie Rally, held annually in May. It's right on Lake Michigan, and allows dogs on their private beach. This time we made reservations at The Ridges Inn & Suites. Both places are located in Baileys Harbor, and have designated dog-friendly rooms available for a nominal fee.
